State Officers 2021

The Georgia Student Government Association (GSGA) represents the local student government associations and/or local student leadership councils in the technical colleges of the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG).

GSGA’s mission is to teach student leaders and advisors how to become more effective, ethical, and influential leaders on their campuses.

The purpose of GSGA is to promote student involvement in the technical colleges by sharing information and by providing assistance to member technical colleges. In addition, GSGA provides information to local members including, but not limited to:

  • Effective methods to promote networking
  • How to organize student government associations
  • How to increase local memberships
  • How to conduct meetings
  • How to organize effective fundraising activities

GSGA members are encouraged to participate in the extensive leadership training offered by TCSG and the American Student Government Association (ASGA).

About Dessie Hall
Dessie Hall is the Director of Student Activities at Atlanta Technical College (ATC). She has been employed with the state of Georgia for over 23 years, which includes 16 years with the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG). Since her tenure, she has served as the SGA advisor for 13 consecutive years both at Oconee Fall Line Technical College and now at Atlanta Technical College. Dessie’s past experience consists of serving as the state advisor for SkillsUSA Georgia Postsecondary. She also serves as the deputy registrar for the Fulton County Voter Registration Office.

Dessie earned her B.S. in Communications from Walden University and her A.S. in General Studies from Georgia Military College. Dessie is a servant leader. She enjoys participating in community service projects for her job and in her community. In addition, she has a great appreciation for diversity.

Dessie enjoys engaging with student leaders and training them to understand their role as Student Government Association (SGA) officer. Her mission for GSGA is to ensure students and advisors have the support they need to run their student governments effectively on their college campuses.

Currently at ATC, Dessie serves as the advisor for SGA, National Technical Honor Society, SkillsUSA, and the International Club. She is the Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL) Coordinator and the coordinator for the study abroad program, the Halle Exchange.

In her spare time, she enjoys, spending time with family and friends, traveling, learning about other cultures, reading, and photography.

About Trish Wiggins
Trish Wiggins is the Coordinator of Recruitment and Student Life at Georgia Northwestern Technical College. She has spent ten years in Higher Education, primarily in Residence Life, which involved mentoring student staff and planning student activities. Since moving into Student Life, Trish has enjoyed finding new ways to connect with students, including advising the GNTC Student Government Association. She is originally from Florida and has lived in Georgia for the last seven years, after spending time living in New Orleans, while obtaining her Master’s degree in Education, then in Northeast Tennessee for her first job in Higher Education. Trish is excited to join the Georgia SGA Adviser Team and help to grow the organization over the next year.
